As usual on the Web, the range of organizations and viewpoints is extremely wide when it comes to the millennium and Y2k.
Here's a quick listing of just a few of the plans being announced on the WWW:
In southern California there will be a party from December 30, 1999 through January 1, 2000 which is described as including four campgrounds, 5 stages, 4500 acres and expecting 2.5 million people; it's called Party 2000.
For the Holy Year 2000, the Vatican announces their Jubilee 2000 and is expecting up to 20 million people to make pilgrimages to Rome. The Pope plans daily blessings during 2000.
In Greenwich, Britain, they are building the Millennium Dome: 20 acres, 2/3 mile circumference, 165 feet high, with a teflon-coated glass fiber roof.
The self-proclaimed first spot of land to see the sun rise on January 1, 2000 is Pitt Island, New Zealand. Gisborne, New Zealand has proclaimed themselves the first city to see that sun rise.
In France, there is Project KEO which will send a satellite full of our messages into orbit for 50,000 years before it returns to earth. You can submit your message at their website.
There are many special conventions, congresses and meetings planned for the next couple of years by organizations that hold annual events. There's Earth Day 2000 and Times Square 2000, for example.
Last but not least (not really -- this is just a sample remember), Egypt has planned for an original opera performance at the pyramids starting at sunset on December 31, 1999 and lasting through sunrise on the following day.
I dare anyone to tell these people that they are a year off.
