Why does starting a new millennium seem so meaningful? For one thing, it's a kind of a milestone, the type of event that compels people to examine their lives, a place to look back on the past and forward to the future.

Of course, there's also the fact that for about the last 500 years, writers, seers, and great thinkers have been talking about the year 2000 and making predictions; it is one of only a few events that are world-wide; and, no one alive today will ever experience it again, you know.

And, just think about all the advertising and merchandising we have to look forward to. If you think Christmas decorations the day after Halloween is too much, the Millennium could really do you in.

All that aside, a new millennium is a powerful trigger to look for Meaning, create something Meaningful, reflect on the Meaning of the past, look for hidden Meanings, etc., etc.

We almost can't help but expect something meaningful to happen now. We can tell ourselves that it's really just another year, like any before or after, but still it's hard to not hope and anticipate and look for signs.

If all this triggers a desire to do something enduring and significant, if it makes us remember half-forgotten dreams, maybe this would be a good time to take a plunge, give it a try. Why not? You can take advantage of the Millennium feeling or whatever it is.
